WHEN gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt (right) famously teamed up in jazz with virtuoso violinist Stephane Grappelli in the ’30s and ’40s, the world exploded with the duo’s hot swing sound. The music will come alive again at the annual Spirit of Django Reinhart concert at the Rose Theater (Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street; [212] 721-6500) on Thursday at 8 p.m. The event, now in its fourth year, will feature a slew of gypsy guitar stars, including Tchavolo Schmitt from Strasbourg, France, in his first appearance at the festival; Tchavolo’s cousin, guitarist and violinist Dorado Schmitt; and Dorado’s son Samson. Also featured are Parisian gypsy-jazz violinist Florin Niculescu, French accordionist Ludovic Beier, Dutch pianist Peter Beets, sax player Joel Frahm and bass player/musical director Brian Torff (who once toured with Grappelli). Tickets are $37-57. See djanobirdland.com or jalc.com for more info.
