Gene Shalit, longtime entertainment critic for NBC’s “Today,” will leave the show after 40 years on Nov. 11, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

“It’s enough already,” Shalit said in a statement explaining his departure.

Shalit, known for his wild hair and mustache and his penchant for bow ties, joined “Today” in 1970 as a regular correspondent, before replacing Joe Garagiola and becoming a panelist in 1973.

Shalit’s final “Today” episode will feature a retrospective of his four decades of work on the show.

After “Today,” Shalit said he will pursue other activities in publishing, radio and commercials.
