For those of us who first experienced its loopy pleasures as impressionable teenagers in 1968, the skimpily clad Jane Fonda will always be “Barbarella,” as directed by then-hubby Roger Vadim. As far as Universal is concerned, it won’t be Rose McGowan in the sequel, the New York Observer reports. Rose is said to be the choice of Robert Rodriguez, who equipped her with a machine-gun leg in “Grindhouse” and became her fiance, but Universal doesn’t think she’s a big enough star to support the $100 million budget the normally thrifty Rodriguez wants for this Dino DeLaurentiis production. They’re supposedly thinking more like $60 million. Personally, we’d love to see the still-in-great-shape Jane in those outfits again..
