‘Almost Famous’ lives
For a movie that was a notoriously perplexing flop, Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous” (which made both LouLumenick‘s and my ten-best-of the-decade list) certainly has seeped into the popular culture. The entire third act of this week’s “Get Him to the Greek” (which is otherwise very Spinal Tap-y) is basically a gloss on the “Almost Famous” story in which a degenerate rocker imparts wisdom to a young fan turned friend, and in another wide release opening Friday, “Marmaduke,” there is an even more direct reference to “Almost Famous.” At a wild party scene in which mutts congregate around a swimming pool, one four-footed fella is spotted on the roof of a house, where he yells, “I am a golden dog!” before leaping in the pool.
