Beats me why an Oscar-nominated actress would choose to do a nude scene in a short film that will have its North American premiere tomorrow night at the Apple Store in Soho, and will be available for download on Apple’s iTunes web site the next day. Natalie Portman, co-star Jason Schwartzman and director Wes Anderson will be on hand for a Q & A afterwards at the apparently free premiere of “The Hotel Chevalier,” which will precede by three days its showing at the New York Film Festival, together with Anderson’s feature length “The Darjeeling Limited.” As we reported last week, “Chevalier” will not be shown in theaters with “Darjeeling,” even though it is billed as “Part One” of the flick and it explains many arcane plot points. Anderson, who says the two films may be shown together after a few weeks, tries to explain this baffling marketing strategy to the Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times. The nude scene, just for the record, is more extensive than the one Portman did in “V For Vendetta” (pictured); she did her first for “Closer,” but it was cut by director Mike Nichols. The iPod also has a major role in “Chevalier,” as well as a cameo in “Darjeeling,” but we liked Natalie’s photo better.
