“Avengers: Endgame” crushed the competition at the box office once again last week in padding its nearly $2.2 billion take, not only handily winning the period but blowing past “Titanic” to become the world’s second highest-grossing film of all time — with the throne set in its sights.

The superhero blockbuster’s Hulk-sized haul sits at more than $2.188 billion internationally, according to Deadline, barely enough to sink “Titanic” for second-place.

“Endgame” now sits behind only another James Cameron-directed epic, “Avatar,” which ultimately racked up $2.8 billion, and eclipsed the $2 billion threshold 47 days after its 2009 release — or more than four times the 11 days “Endgame” has been in theaters.

“The sprint to $2 billion in unbelievable,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for number-crunching company Comscore. “We’re in uncharted territory.

Usually, films like this are marathoners.”

The latest flick in the Marvel franchise juggernaut grossed an estimated $145.8 million domestically in its second week — or more than three times the $46.6 million tallied by the next nine movies combined.
