Saturday night and I have just returned from the Two Boots Pioneer in the East Village, where I enjoyed the black comedy “Invisible Waves” (2006). It’s Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s follow-up to his 2003 international hit “Last Life in the Universe.”

Once again, the leading man is Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano, best remembered for Takashi Miike’s “Ichi the Killer.” And, yet again, the lensing is by Aussie bad boy Christopher Doyle.

“Invisible Waves” is part of the Pioneer’s two-day festival of films from Thailand. It ends Sunday with a program of shorts (2:30 p.m.), a roundtable discussion (4:30 p.m.) and the comedy feature “Citizen Dog” (2004) at 6:30 p.m. The director is Wisit Sasanatieng, who earlier gave us “Tears of the Black Tiger” (2000).
