I was talking to a couple of publicists at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment a couple of hours ago, and they said a big Blu-ray story would be breaking tomorrow. Well, AP just jumped the gun. AP reports that Target, the nation’s second-largest retailer, which has not carried high-definition players up until now, will feature a $500 Sony Blu-ray unit in special aisle-end displays during the crucial Christmas season. Another nail in the coffin for the struggling HD DVD format, though neither one has lured consumers from standard DVDs in sizeable numbers so far.
