“Toy Story 3” opened with a gargantuan estimated $109M over the weeked, a ginormous $38.5M better than Pixar’s previous best, “The Incredibles.” That makes it the second-biggest three day opening for an animated feature, after “Shrek the Third” which still holds the record with $121.6M — from the pre 3-D era of 2007.

The weekend’s other big story was “Jonah Hex,” which flopped far worse than the worst predictions — a pathetic estimated $5.1 million. The studio is reportedly claiming this comic-book adaptation with Josh Brolin cost just $35 million, but there is speculation that reshoots this spring boosted the pricetag to as much as $65M. Either way, it’s a black eye for Warner Bros. and its sister company DC.
