This weekend box office returns came in like a lamb, off 12.5 percent from the same three days a year ago (last weekend was the first “up” weekend since Labor Day). “Bee Movie” and “American Gangster” swapped positions from last week, with solid holds that netted them $26 million and $24.3 million respectively. Among wide openers, “Fred Claus” was a relative disappointment with $19.2 million in third place, and, as expected, “Lions for Lambs” flopped in fourth with just $6.7 million. Not good omens for the distributors of a plethora of upcoming holiday and Mideast-themed flicks.
