A raft of crappy movies has lifed January’s box-office grosses 18 percent over last year, Variety reports. Critically reviled December releases “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks” crossed the $200 million mark this month, along with the comparatively better “I Am Legend.” Other lousy movies performing better than expected include “The Bucket List,” “P.S. I Love You,” “Cloverfield,” “27 Dresses,” “Meet the Spartans” and “Rambo.” A few good movies are doing well also: “Juno” crossed the $100 million mark, and “There Will Be Blood” is exceeding expectations.
