Hollywood has been cleaning up so far this year with crap movies, and a couple of romantic comedies are arriving this weekend ahead of Valentine’s Day to test the public’s further tolerance. The dreadful “Fool’s Gold” with Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson will win the weekend with around $20 million during its first three days, predicts Steve Mason at Fantasy Moguls, despite a 1 star pan from me and a 10 percent favorite rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Mase thinks poor marketing by Universal will hold down the take to around $17 million for the African-American rom-com “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins,” which gets three stars from Kyle and 37 percent positive at RT, which is the best that a Martin Lawrence vehicle has done in years. Barely in wide release at 962 locations, the long on the shelf documentary “Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show” gets one star from Kyle and 56 percent positive. Mase predicts around $2 million, which means it won’t make the top 10. The outlook is even more dire for “The Hottie and the Nottie,” the first Paris Hilton movie to darken a theatrical movie screen since “House of Wax.” It’s on 111 screens and gets 10 percent positive at RT, not including Kyle’s 1-star review.
