There are a couple of semi-wide releases: “Noble Son” with Alan Rickman on 893 screens. Kyle gives this one one star and it’s charting a not-promising 21 percent positive at RT. Gitesh doesn’t offer a prediction for this one, but he sees just $2 million for “Cadillac Records,” which Sony is opening under its Tri-Star alias on 686 screens, despite the presence of Oscar winner Adrien Brody as the founder of Chess Records and Beyonce Knowles in a supporting role as Etta James. This one is charting 66 percent positive at RT, and I give it three stars, mostly on the basis of its terrific soundtrack and a great ensemble that includes Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters and Mos Def as Chuck Berry. Meanwhile, Best Picture frontrunners “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Milk” will continue their expansions into the hinterlands, and Universal is cautiously bowing another contender, Ron Howard’s “Frost/Nixon,” on just three screens. Here’s a link to my 3.5 star review.
