It doesn’t look like any of this weekend’s three new wide releases has the mojo to keep “Inception” from three-peating at No. 1, with forecasts running as high as $30 million.

The most optimistic predictions have Paramount’s “Dinner With Schmucks” reaching a figure in the mid-20s — and the lowest in the mid-teens, which would likely put it in third place after the second weekend of “Salt,” which prognosticators think will collect around $20 for its second weekend. “Schmucks,” a supersized remake of Francis Veber’s French comedy “The Dinner Game” with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell, rates a mediocre 49 percent at Rotten Tomatoes and gets two stars from yours truly. I say save yourself some money and rent the far funnier original.

Guesstimates for Warners’ “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore’ run as high as $22 million, which if it happens could pull off an upset of both “Schmucks” and “Salt.” More likely this 3-D comedy aimed at the family trade will end up fighting for fifth place with hardy holdover “Despicable Me,” which also benefits from bloated 3-D surcharges. My colleague Billy Heller, pinch-hitting for the vacationing Kyle Smith, gives this belated sequel 2.5 stars; the RT score is a dire 22 percent, the worst of the wide newcomers.

The Zac Efron weepie “Charlie St. Cloud” — a planned September release that Universal swapped for the Matt Damon thriller “The Adjustment Bureau,” which the studio subsequently decided to inter early next year — is likely bringing up the rear with a number in the low teens, though some optimists think Zac’s fans could boost it into the high teens. I dismiss this piece of treacle with 1 star; it’s getting a 27 at RT.
