Ace prognosticator Steve Mason has upped his weekend forecast for “Star Trek” from $65 million to $77M after the film amassed an estimated $33 million through Friday, including $7 million in Thursday night’s previews. While that’s still $8 million shy of last weekend’s “Wolverine” opening, it’s stunning for a franchise that was all but given up for dead — and, I believe, the only major project that was greenlit during Gail Berman’s short and ill-fated reign at Paramount before Brad Grey took the reins.
