Ticket sales typically drop half or more the weekend after Thanksgiving, so there is only one wide opening, “Awake,” and that isn’t being screened for critics. Long-suffering reps for the Weinsteins say they don’t want to give away the movie’s secrets — first time we’ve heard that excuse. Happy to oblige, Harvey: we’re not going to bother reviewing. Anyway, erstwhile Darth Vader Hayden Christensen stars as a guy whose wife Jessica Alba plots to have him killed during a heart transplant — only he hears the surgeons discussing the plot while under anesthetic. The lead surgeon is played by ubiquitous Oscar nominee Terrence Howard in his second paycheck job in two weeks (after “August Rush”) and what looks to be his fifth flop of the year — and he’s still got another release to go in a couple of weeks. Even the ubiquitous blurbmeister Pete Hammond, who apparently got an advance look, couldn’t find anything nice to say about “Awake.” He gives it two stars (out of five) and cleverly says “Awake” … “may end up puttting you asleep.” Forecasts put it fourth or five place this weekend behind “Enchanted,” “This Christmas,” “Beowulf” and possibly “Hitman,” with $6 to $8 million.
