Gitesh Pandya at Box Office Guru is
Universal’s pricey (and smutty) family adventure “Land of the Lost” with Will Ferrell will triumph with around $29 million, despite absymal reviews for the worst studio film I’ve seen so far this year. Gitesh has Warner’s starless, cost-effective fratboy comedy “The Hangover” (directed by Ferrell’s “Old School” helmer, Todd Phillips) in third place with a predicted $23 million, but I think he may be wrong. “The Hangover” has the buzz and Fandango is reporting that “The Hangover” is selling 21 percent of advance tickets compared with 6 percent for “Land of the Lost.” Gitesh is predicting the weekend’s other wide opener, Fox Searchlight’s dreadful “My Life in Ruins” with Nia Vardalos, will tank with just $4 million.Images: Universal, Warner Bros.
