We love the idea that Universal has signed Jake Gylenhaal (whose great-uncle, Henry Foner, gave me my first job) to play football legend and ’60s icon Joe Namath in a biopic. And not only because we get to run this groovy poster from a 1970 movie during Joe’s brief run as a Hollywood star. His other notable credits are “Norwood” (1970) with Glen Campbell and the immortal “The Last Rebel” (1971). I once saw Joe, a truly endearing presence if not much of an actor, play the lead in “Damn Yankees” at Jones Beach.
