George Clooney figures in two of the three big deal announcements coming out of Cannes. Overture has forked over a
$4 million for U.S. rights to the Clooney-produced “Men Who Stare at Goats,” the directorial debut of Grant Heslov, who wrote the Clooney-directed “Good Night and Good Luck.” Clooney co-stars in the paranormal comedy — which will be released in late ’09 or early ’10 — with Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey. Variety is also reporting that Focus Feaures has made a deal to distribute another Clooney production, “A Very Private Gentlemen,” to be directed by Anton Corbjin (“Control”). Clooney stars as an assassin on a final assignment in the flick, set to begin shooting in Italy in the fall. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg and his DreamWorks partners announced they have acquired biopic rights from the frequently squabbling offspring of Martin Luther King Jr.
