As predicted here, Sony Pictures Classics has acquired U.S. rights to Mike Leigh’s “Another Year,” perhaps the best-received film so far at the Cannes Fest. It’s the first big deal for an available title in the competition.

Expect an Oscar campaign on behalf of Briish actress Lesley Manville, who knocks it out of the park as a desperately lonely singleton with a crush on her middle-aged pals’ son. Manville is also being talked up for an acting award in Cannes.
