Critics are only human
Critics are usually too cool to show any emotion during a press screening of a new movie. But at Wednesday night’s showing of “The Human Centipede,” an innovative Dutch horror movie, there were audible gasps and laughs from the assembled members of the print and Web media. Afterward, there was at least one friendly dispute between a critic who loved the movie despite its faults and one who hated it. The movie doesn’t make sense, one said. You have to suspend disbelieve and go with the film’s quirky story and outlandish images, said the other. The film, directed by Tom Six, opens to the public April 30, at which time I’ll have more to say.
