Well, it was certainly worth the nine-year wait for a Julia Roberts vehicle. And rather than make you wait for opening day on Friday, here’s my four-star rave for Tony Gilroy’s scintillating instant-classic “Duplicity” appearing in today’s print edition of The Post. And Clive Owen demonstrates he’s way too good for those boring James Bond movies. As I note, some of my criticial colleagues, like Todd McCarthy of Variety, wonder if the non-linear narrative is too smart for the movie’s box-office prosperity. Well, it’s been 15 years since “Pulp Fiction” popularized this kind of approach and “Duplicity” is still a lot easier to follow than, say, “Watchmen.” My junior colleague Kyle Smith thinks audiences will be left unsatisified with the ending of “Duplicity,” but, without giving anything away, a somewhat similar approach didn’t seem to hurt “Ocean’s Eleven,” in which Roberts had one of her many ensemble roles over the past decade.
