Three Monogram titles with Sidney Toler (and the first with Roland Winters) as the Chinese-American detective are included in “The Charlie Chan Collection,” Warner Home Video’s first regular (non-burned) DVD set since last fall, set for release on June 8 under the “TCM Spotlight” label. All of the surviving Fox Chan titles (four are no longer believed to exist) are already out on video. MGM, which owns the earlier Monogram titles with Toland, released six of them years ago as a set called “Chantology,” as well as individually. The Warner titles are apparently available only as a set. Benson Fong co-stars in “Dark Alibi,” while Victor Sen-Yung, No. 2 son in the Fox days, returns to the series for “Dangerous Money” and “The Trap” (all are from 1946) and he also appears in Winters’ debut, “The Chinese Ring” (1947).
