Warner Home Video’s long-awaited 8K restoration of “North by Northwest” is set to arrive on Blu-ray and a two-disc special edition DVD on Nov. 3. Hitchcock’s most entertaining flick and MGM’s only film in VistaVision (it was originally going to be made at Paramount, which swapped the pricey project for the MGM-developed musical “Funny Face”) is the first Hitchcock title to arrive in a high-definition format. The Blu-ray will include a 44-page digibook, as well as well as two new featurettes (“The Master’s Touch: Hitchcock’s Signature Style” and “North by Northwest: One for the Ages”) it will share with the DVD release, along with Richard Schickel‘s 2004 feature-length profile of Cary Grant for TCM, released on DVD only in the U.K. Both releases port over the excellent making-of doc hosted by Eva Marie Saint for the 2000 DVD release, along with the commentary track by the late screenwriter Ernest Lehmann.
