“In Bruges,” the directing debut of playwright Martin McDonaugh (“The Lieutenant of Irishmore”) will open the Sundance Film Festival on January 17 in Park City, Utah, it was announced today. The flick stars Colin Farrell and Brenda Gleeson (pictured) as London hit men who are banished to Bruges, Belgium, by their boss (Ralph Fiennes) after botching a job. “In many ways, ‘In Bruges’ is a quintessential Sundance Film — it’s brutal, philosophical, funny and totally original,” says Sundance director Geoffrey Gilmore. The rest of the Sundance slate is scheduled to be announced on Nov. 28.
