You can’t keep a good film critic down. Earlier this week, Todd McCarthy got the bounce from Variety, where he was its longtime chief movie critic. On Friday, the Film Society of Lincoln Center announced that McCarthy had joined the New York Film Festival selection committee. He joins Richard Pena, Scott Foundas, Melissa Anderson and Dennis Lim on the festival panel. “Todd brings a fresh and often surprising point of view to his take on cinema,” Pena, the film society’s program director, said in a statement. Said McCarthy: “Despite long-circulating rumors of the demise of cinema, there have been many very fine and interesting films made all over the globe in the last few years, and I look forward to helping to find the very best of this year’s crop for the benefit of New York’s discerning festival audience.” Way to go, Scott!
