Fire Simon Pegg as Scotty!
Dark rumblings from the Dork Knights: “Star Trek” fans, who are otherwise delighted with the J.J. Abrams reboot of the franchise, are starting to cry, “Sack Simon Pegg!” The problem: Pegg is in a completely different (and better) movie than everyone else.
He’s actually clowning around, having a good time, taking nothing seriously. I thought he was the best part of this otherwise forgettable feature…but I am not a Trekkie. I also thought “Star Trek IV” was by far the best “Star Trek” movie because it took the mickey out of the whole painfully earnest project. At any rate, true-blue Trekkies/ers are moaning that Scotty is supposed to be an embittered misanthrope, not a wacky happy-go-lucky guy, which is how Pegg plays him. After serious discussion, Trek fanboys have hinted that they may go so far as to actually launch an online petition to fire Pegg. Down, boys! Take a deep breath before you do anything rash.
