“A Nightmare on Elm Street” producer Brad Fuller suggested on Twitter yesterday that a sequel to the reboot, which opened last weekend to $33 million, is already in the works. Seems like a no-brainer. What self-respecting horror movie doesn’t leave open the possibility of a follow-up? It’s not like the killer can die or anything.

The news is only curious in comparison to “Friday the 13th,” which was also produced by Platinum Dunes, director Michael Bay’s company. Last year, that re-do took in $40 million on opening weekend (against a paltry $19-million budget), on its way to a $91 million total domestic tally. Yet Fuller recently confirmed that there will be no “Part II.”

I wonder why “Nightmare” is more worthy of a sequel than “Friday the 13th,” especially when both franchises have shown that they can make money. And isn’t that the most important thing in Hollywood?
