That’s according to one online reviewer, who lauded the French gangster biopic that arrives stateside this weekend in two parts. It stars Vincent Cassel as Jacques Mesrine, who was basically the French John Dillinger. During the 1960s and ’70s, he robbed banks — sometimes two a day — avoided the law, and generally wrought havoc in Paris and Montreal. He escaped creatively from prison multiple times and became a bit of a folk hero, at one point getting voted the most popular man in France.

If you’ve all but given up on Hollywood this summer after a season of underwhelming would-be blockbusters, maybe “Mesrine” could cure what ails you. Part 1, subtitled “Killer Instinct,” is currently running at 80 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes. Part 2, “Public Enemy #1,” is at 94 percent.
