This is the first summer that Hollywood has ever sold $400 million worth of tickets, but because of rapidly rising prices it doesn’t follow that a record number of people went to movies. Paul Dergarabedian at Media by Numbers calculates that in terms of actual tickets sold, 2007 actually ranks in sixth in “modern times.” Paul projects that 605.8 million tickets will be sold by Sept. 3, trailing the 653.4 million mark set in 2002.
