Having just seen Neil Jordan’s “Ondine” last night – a sort of gritty, indie, very Irish take on the “Splash” plot – I’m in exactly the right mood for io9’s gallery of “The Biggest Tearjerkers in the Scifi Pantheon.” Most are fairly mainstream (you couldn’t really leave out “E.T.” or Spock’s death in “The Wrath of Khan,” after all) but bonus points for including “Wings of Desire,” the original one. Personally, I would probably have thrown in the final scene of “District 9” (and I’ll leave it at that, so as not to be spoilery).
