Poky filmmaker Terrence Malick is picking up the pace. Just slightly: He’s gone from a one-movie-every-20-years kinda guy to a one-movie-every-20-minutes kinda guy. He’s already got a Ben Affleck-Rachel McAdams flick in post; now he’s got Christian Bale, star of “The New World,” for another go-round. Plus the dazzling Big Bang sequence of “The Tree of Life” is going to be spun off into its own IMAX film. Which will, no doubt, gross more than the parent movie it came from. Question: If you take the Big Bang and other sci-fi stuff out of “The Tree of Life,” would the movie be somewhat of a long sit? Meanwhile, Sean Penn is as puzzled as anyone else about his all-but-silent role in the movie, saying, “Frankly, I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing there.”
