Tonight may be your last chance to visit New York’s last grindhouse. Or not. Ace editor Katherine Pushkar, who caught my misspelling of Allan Dwan’s name, has been trying to organize an expedition to the Fair Theatre in East Elmhurst, Queens, but our wussy boss Steve has been resisting, even with half a dozen stiletto-heeled women with Prada bags full of Purell to protect him. The Fair is going to start showing Bollywood movies tomorrow, though the theatre buffs at Cinema Treasures have been wondering out loud if it’s merely the Fair’s latest attempt to comply with the city’s 60/40 law. When I visited three weeks ago, the main screen was showing “The Prestige” and two smaller screens in adjoining alcoves were playing “Star Wars” movies to legally justify the porn playing elsewhere in the joint. We’ll stay on top of this.
