James James Gandolfini may be a notoriously reluctant interview subject – answers tend to come out in three words or less – but no one can accuse Tony Soprano’s alter ego of actorly vanity.
“Robert Redford’s in great shape, isn’t he?” Gandolfini said of his legendary co-star in “The Last Castle” (opening Friday), in which Redford – playing an imprisoned three-star general – takes off his shirt to move a pile of rocks.
“And here I am, 20 years younger, and I [look] like a jelly donut in a camouflage outfit!”
Gandolfini, who recently turned 40, then flashed the only smile during a half-hour interview in DreamWorks co-chief Jeffrey Katzenberg’s office on Madison Avenue.
