Sometimes an actress needs only a single scene to gain screen immortality. So it was for Jane Randolph in the suspenseful swimming pool sequence from Jacques Tourner’s “Cat People” (1942). probably the most famous scene in any of Val Lewton’s celebrated RKO thrillers. The alluring Randolph, who made her debut in an unbilled bit as a hat check girl in “Manpower” (1941), also appeared in “Curse of the Cat People” (1944) and retired after serving as the second female lead in “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” (1948). Speaking of recently departed 93-year-olds thanks for the many kind words about my post on Aunt Rose Lauria over the weekend.
