As expected, host Jon Stewart opens with a riff on the writer’s strike and calls the Oscars “makeup sex.” He draws blood when he notes that Vanity Fair claims it cancelled its party out of respect for the writers, and dryly adds they could really show respect for the writers by “maybe inviting some of them to the Vanity Fair Oscar party.” Mentioning a nomination for “Norbit,” he hilariously comments, “too often bad movies are overlooked.” But joking that his stripper name is former winner Olympia Dukakis bombs.
