Sean Penn (“Milk”) won over Mickey Rourke (“The Wrestler”) in the only real contest in the major categories. He thanked “you Commie, homo-loving sons of guns” and said, “I do know how hard I make it to appreciate me, often…Mickey Rourke rises again, and he is my brother.” The award was presented by past winners Robert DeNiro, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley, Adrien Brody and Michael Jenkins.
