It looks like my favorite film of 2009, “Up in the Air,” will go home empty-handed tonight after losing its best shot, for adapted screenplay, to an upset by “Precious.” Winner Jeffrey Fletcher gives the most emotional speech of an evening that’s been pretty short on this score so far. 5 for 9.
