Blogging from Sundance a year ago, I predicted Oscar nominations for Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman for “The Savages,” a quote that Fox Searchlight ran in many ads. So I was especially pleased that Linney surprised many today with her Best Actress nomination, and the flick got Original Screenplay nod for director Tamara Jenkins. Hoffman was also nominated, but in support for “Charlie Wilson’s War.”
