The French prison shocker “A Prophet,” directed by Jacques Audiard, hits New York Feb. 12, and I recommend you catch it when it gets here. I just saw the movie at the London Film Festival, where it took the top prize from a jury headed by Charlotte Rampling. The award was picked up at a black-tie dinner by the film’s star, Tahar Rahim, who seemed lost for words. He portrays Malik, a French Arab who finds himself in prison with no friends or allies. “A Prophet” watches as he slowly builds a power base, a process which requires that he kill a fellow con. I got to sit at the same table at the awards ceremony as Ridley Scott and his daughter Jordan, who had a film, “Cracks,” in competition. She let slip that the next day was her birthday, but would not say which one. (Somewhere in her 20s, I’d guess.)
