Man, tough year. First, Mad Mel gets accused of abuse by his girlfriend who has an accent straight out of an early James Bond movie. Then his career gets destroyed by having tapes of angry phone conversations leaked. And now it appears his (inevitable) comeback is hitting a speed bump. He’s been cut from “The Hangover 2.”

Gibson was to play a tattoo artist, but director Todd Phillips says that the part will ultimately be axed because he did not have the “full support” of his entire cast and crew.

Rumor is that Zach Galifianakis was particularly upset by Gibson’s casting.

Seems like a unusual precedent. Plenty of people in Hollywood have skeletons in their closet or have run into trouble at some point. Or even gone to jail. People seem to have no problem making movies for Roman Polanski, and what he’s been accused of is arguably worse than what Gibson is being accused of. Brandy on “Dancing With the Stars” killed a married mother of two in a 2007 car crash. Should the cast and crew of “DWTS” stage a protest and walk off the set?

What’s the line? Are there transgressions that Gibson could have been accused of that would not have affected his “Hangover 2” cameo? And would something like this ever happen in the real world? Is anyone willing to quit their job because they have a problem with the private life of a co-worker?
