One of my favorite movie memories of actress Gloria Stuart, who died Sunday at the grand old age of 100, is in the Busby Berkeley musical “Gold Diggers of 1935.” It’s when she and her co-star, Dick Powell, sing “I’m Going Shopping With You.” It’s a number I can watch over and over on DVD. Stuart plays Ann, the wealthy daughter of a Mrs. Prentiss (Alice Brady). Mom wants her to marry fussy, middle-aged millionaire T. Mosely Thorpe (Hugh Herbert), who’s more interested in snuff boxes than in Ann. She, in turn, has eyes only for a handsome young hotel employee (Powell) with a rich tenor voice. And who can blame her?
