Walt Disney’s “Steamboat Willie” premiered on Nov. 18, 1928 at the Broadway Theatre (corner of 53th Street), which became a legit house in the ’50s and is currently home to the musical “Shrek.” Mickey would have entered the public domain five years ago, if it had not been for Disney’s lobbying to extend the copyright law, which currently covers corporate-sponsored works for 90 years. Enjoy this; it’s a lot more fun than the Mouse House’s latest effort, “Bolt,” which I’ll be reviewing on Friday.
