Quite a good year for film, in my view: if the year had ended July 1, I would have had no trouble filling out a top ten list of highly worthwhile films. My top picks for the first half of this year:

1. The Lives of Others (which the Academy considers a 2006 film)

2. Knocked Up

3. Ratatouille

4. Rescue Dawn

5. Meet the Robinsons.
