In New Zealand, a brave documentary crew arranged to film the activities of four strange roommates, wearing crucifixes the whole time. The roommates were vampires who squabbled over household chores. “Vampires,” insisted one, “don’t do dishes.”

Combining “The Real World” with Bram Stoker, this mockumentary comedy stars Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”) and his frequent collaborator Taika Waititi as two of the fangy four, who decide to leave their skeleton-strewn mansion and go clubbing in the city of Wellington. There are a few funny bits (a rival group composed of werewolves is determined to cut back on its salty language, hence the catchphrase, “We’re werewolves, not swearwolves”).

Still, most of the best gags are in the early going and the film seems ever more stretched and thin as it goes on. It would have made a brilliant eight-minute sketch, though.
