More ‘Void’
Ready or not, here it comes. The original, uncut version of Argentine-French provocateur Gaspar Noe’s envelope-pushing “Enter the Void” is getting a run at the IFC Center through Jan. 20. It contains 20 minutes of footage seen in Europe but not in the US. The 163-minute, trimmed version opened here in September to critical praise. I and other critics included it on the list of the top 10 movies of 2010. The setting is a neon-drenched Tokyo, where an American junkie, Oscar (Nathaniel Brown), is shot dead by cops in the men’s room of a sleazy bar, then has an extended out-of-body experience in which he examines his life, including his relationship with his messed-up sister (Paz de la Huerta). The restored footage deals with Oscar’s transition into the spirit world.
