It’s not always easy to figure out who broke a story on the web, and I should have credited the ever-snarky Stu Van Airsdale of the Reeler for Friday’s report that “Spider-Man 3” will have its U.S. Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Stu had Spidey and the Angelina Jolie-produced doc “A Moment in the World” in a long list he impressively published a couple of weeks before the official announcements. And Stu has one premiere that hasn’t been announced yet: “Lucky Me,” the Drew Barrymore gambling drama that has been gathering dust for a couple of years on the shelves at Warner Bros., and is being sacrificed, er, “being offered as counter-programming” against Spidey on May 4. Speaking of the Spandex-Clad Pride of Sunnyside, why exactly is Sony springing for a “Spider-Man Week” in New York (USA Today, incidentally broke the story on Friday, two days ahead of the two-page advertorial appearing today in Sony’s newspaper promotional partner) for a sequel to two of the most successful movies of all time, which couldn’t possibly have more awareness? Just asking…
