New Line Shows Signs of Life
We pretty much gave up New Line Cinema for dead, or at least moribund, after it was absorbed into Warner Bros. earlier this year, but a flurry of deals this week indicate there’s still life in the old indie label. The latest is news that Mandate pictures has commissioned a script for a third Harold and Kumar comedy that will be distributed by Warners for New Line. Yesterday we heard that John Waters had been signed to write a script for a sequel to the hit musical “Hairspray.” The label is also reportely moving along with two-sci projects: D.J. Caruso’s “Y: The Last Man,” with Shia LaBeouf attached, and Len Wiseman’s “Gears of War,” in partnership with Legendary Pictures.
