A follow-up to a 1971 documentary by Bruce Brown, this updated look at the world of motorcycle lovers is a much glossier affair, with high-def camerawork and a sound system that gives the impression the bikers are invading the cinema.
These bikers wouldn’t do that, of course. They are nice, fun-loving folks, from professional racers to skilled mechanics to hobbyists. Likable as they are, there’s a lot of issue-avoidance here. There is only late, glancing acknowledgment that most motorcycles run on fossil fuels, cause noise pollution, and erode the soil on those scenic rides through our nation’s wilderness.
The single theme is “Isn’t this cool?” And if your response is, “Well, it’s certainly loud,” then “On Any Sunday” probably isn’t for you.
