You know an awards hopeful isn’t quite working as intended when you start wondering if the actress playing the leading man’s mother was quite old enough to have conceived him. An IMDB check on the cast of Jim Sheridan’s contrived “Brothers” reveals that in real life, Mare Winningham (“St. Elmo’s Fire”) indeed turned 16 just 11 days before the birth of Tobey Maguire on June 27, 1975. Sam Shepard, who plays Winningham’s husband and Maguire’s father (very well), was 31 at the time. My colleague, Gulf War veteran Lt.
